Great Northern Journeys Inc. is the private sector partner and operator. FNIC Development Corporation is a consortium of First Nation Development corporations which include: Kwanlin Development Corporation (Kwanlin Dün First Nation);12028 Yukon Incorporated (Ta’an Kwäch'än Council); 38505 Yukon Inc. The Great River Journey is a unique opportunity to develop a financially and environmentally sound, sustainable long-term business that features Yukon’s finest attributes. Mission Statement
To provide the premier, high end, low impact, river tour experience in North America by combining the adventure of a unique, safe, comfortable, world class wilderness safari down the Yukon River with an opportunity for a personal journey of discovery into the wilderness, history and culture of one of earth’s treasures – the Yukon.
Values Statement
The Great River Journey Inc. believes its business must be based on a sincere appreciation and respect for its guests, the land and natural environment in which it operates and the cultural and social values of Yukon people.
Guiding Principles
To succeed in its mission, the Great River Journey is guided by the following principles:
(a) Product Presentation
To base each journey on authentic themes, activities and experiences that actively engage our guests and encourage them to feel connected with Yukon and its people, deepening their understanding of the unique experiences offered, and helping them appreciate the special access and opportunities for personal growth afforded by their journey.
(b) Operations
1) To operate all aspects of the business in accordance with our mission statement, values statement and guiding principles with special attention to:
- Assuring the comfort, good health, safety and satisfaction of each guest.
- Providing each guest with the support, guidance and space for learning and enlightening experiences .
- Respecting the land and environment, history, culture and Yukon people.
- Protecting against fire, interference with wildlife and disturbing habitat.
- Seeking permission before visiting private lands and special places.
- Abiding by the laws, procedures and guidelines of the various levels of government including First Nation governments.
2) To provide support, orientation, and ongoing guidance to guests to assist them in understanding and respecting these values and principles.
(c) Marketing and Promotion
To market and promote the growth of the business in a manner which promotes awareness of Yukon people and their history and maintains cultural integrity.
(d) Human Resource Development
To provide ongoing training and experience, which will encourage Yukon people, particularly First Nation citizens, to develop the skills required to succeed.
(e) Communications
To encourage and maintain open communications with guests, industry partners, neighbors on the river, other tourism operators, communities and governments.
(f) Financial Returns
To manage the business to provide its investors with an attractive level of profit and significant long term capital appreciation.
